On Wednesday, April 10th, 2019, the Scott City Board of Education unanimously selected Michael Umfleet to be the new Superintendent of Schools, starting with the 2019-2020 school year. Mr. Umfleet has worked his entire career at Scott City R-1, starting in 1996 as a teacher and coach. After earning his Masters in Education Administration from Southeast Missouri State University (and later his Specialist in Educational Administration from Southeast), Mr. Umfleet became the Middle School principal starting with the 2006-2007 school year. When asked about becoming the next superintendent, Mr. Umfleet said, "All these years have led me to this spot. I just knew this is what I wanted to do and I want to be a great leader for the school. I'm excited about getting really involved in the community and tying the community into the school and am excited in leading the next generation."

The Scott City R-1 school district wishes to congratulate Mr. Umfleet on becoming the new Superintendent of Schools. We are incredibly excited and fortunate to have such a dedicated person leading our school district!
