The Scott City R-I Board of Education met in special session on April 7, 2014. Board members Scott Amick, Beth Cox, Sally Porch, Gary Miller, Lisa Schaefer, and Gary Elders were present.
The Board conducted the following business.
- After hearing the request for additional funds from FEMA had recently been approved, the Board voted to accept the bid, of $2,059,000, from Zoellner Construction Company for the construction of the FEMA Safe Room. The Safe Room will serve a dual role for the District as a visual and performing arts center. The FEMA Safe Room Grant is 75% FEMA funded and 25% District match. Since the grant was submitted in the fall of 2010, the District has been saving money toward the construction of the facility. The Safe Room, which is approximately 8,987 square feet, is designed to withstand an EF-5 Tornado with winds of up to 250 mph. The estimated completion date for the Safe Room is April 1, 2015, and an estimated completion date for the work to complete the inside to make it a performing arts center is June 21, 2015.
- After reviewing proposals for improving the drainage of the baseball and softball fields, the Board approved a motion to continue to study the situation and look to a solution for the next school year.
