The Scott City R-I Board of Education met in regular session on December 16, 2015. Board members Beth Cox, Gary Elders, Heraleen Bowers, Brad Uelsmann, Lisa Schaefer, and Justin Braun were present.

The Board conducted the following business:

  • Tori and Jamie of Scott City High School Guidance Advisory Students (GAS) Club told the Board of the different activities they were involved, including helping at the Broadway Methodist Church Chili and Chicken Noodle Dinner. Seventeen GAS members helped serve and clean up from the dinner and raised over $3,000 that was used for clothing, shoes and coats for needy children.

  • Discussion was held over the roofing project bids and it was decided to reject all of the bids and table the work to a later time.

  • The Prop Kids renovations were discussed and the priorities on the project were agreed to be: The first priority was increased security by renovating the entrances to the school, the second was cafeteria renovations and the third was roof repairs and other needed repairs.

  • After a power point presentation from teacher and Coach Jim May concerning the needs, safety issues and benefits of replacing and updating the weight room equipment the Board voted to purchase some new equipment.

  • During the recent school meal program review by CNR, it was found that Scott City was not charging enough for their adult lunches. There is a spreadsheet that figures out what the possible range of pricing is and according to their measurements, adult lunches need to cost at least $2.51. The Board voted to set that as the price for adult meals for the 2016-2017 school year.

In closed session, the following action was taken:

  • The Board voted to give Katherine Hendricks a tenured contract for the remainder of the 2015-16 school year.
